Strong Environmental Offers Support Services for CA Bill 966 Compliance
California Senate Bill 966 requires designated participants, including large
retail pharmacies, to participate in a system to collect and dispose of unused
prescription drugs dropped off by individual consumers. The bill passed the
California State Senate on a 21-13 vote, and will be addressed at a California
State Assembly hearing in June or July of this year. This bill requires the
state to develop a plan so that on and after July 1, 2008, the state will have
in place a system to offer the safe take-back and proper disposal of the types
or brands of drugs that retailers sell or previously sold, all at no direct
cost to the general public.
