Strong Helps Homeland Security with Seized and Counterfeit Items

Operating as a subcontrator to a major prime vendor, Strong manages an ongoing need for the destruction of seized import violation material. Typically, this material consists of clothing and novelty items seized by the United States Custom and Border Protection (USCBP), a division of Homeland Security.

USCBP handles thousands of import violation seizures each year at the Port of Los Angeles, one of the busiest seaports in the world. The prime vendor provides warehousing and access control to USCBP for these materials. When destruction orders are issued, Strong works in coordination with the prime vendor in providing turnkey disposition services, from providing paperwork to final disposition and destruction.

Strong has worked with the prime contractor on this project since 2004. Throughout, Strong has provided management, logistics, and disposal of items in support of USCBP. In order to meet project reporting requirements , Strong developed a customized report database that details the billing involved with every shipment, allowing disposal costs to be invoiced and viewed by individual seizure number. During the initial 24 months of the project, Strong has managed in excess of 1200 truck loads of material, accounting for more than 25,000,000 pounds of seized materials destoyed.

Since the inception of this program, Strong's support of Homeland Security and its USCBP authority has continued to expand geographically to include work in the NY - NJ Port Authority, as well as many of the land-locked border control points. Materials managed by Strong have ranged from ammunition and explosive ordinance to USDA APHIS waste. As concerns over illicit materials crossing USA borders, and potential terrorist involvement and possible diversion of these materials increases, so does Strong's involvement in the support of Homeland Security's efforts to stem the tide.
